Chile is a country occupying a long and narrow coastal strip wedged between the Andes mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Chile stretches over 4,630 kilometers north to south, but only 430 kilometers at its widest point east to west.

Santiago, the capital of Chile, is easy to master, as many of the city's main attractions are located in the small downtown area sandwiched between the Rio Mapocho (Mapocho River), Avenida Bernado O’Higgins (Alameda) and Cerro Santa Lucia. Bellavista, just north of the river, is a popular area for its handicraft shops, cultural attractions and nightlife options, situated below Cerro San Cristobal, which looms over the city.

Chile is a wonderful holiday destination, full of mountains, forests, lagoons and beautiful beaches. The major tourist attractions are the volcanoes and national parks of Chile. From the unexplored wilderness of the Chiloi National Park to the crowded Cerro Quielol National Park, you will come across many picturesque forest destinations in Chile.

Lake Villarica, close to the dormant volcano of Villarica, is a picturesque picnic spot that is one of the most popular Chile attractions. The Easter Island, located over 2,000 miles from Tahiti and Chile, can also be named as one of the major Chile tourist attractions since the 19th century. The great monoliths on the island attract thousand of tourists every year.

The Atacama Desert, with its rugged vistas, is home to the llama. The desert is very popular with honeymooners, poets and adventure lovers. The other destinations that attract the tourists are Tierra del Fuego, the Strait of Magellan, The Patagonian channels, Cape Horn, many lakes, ice caps and huge glaciers.

Valparaiso, and particularly Vina del Mar, is the most important tourist area in the country and one of the most attractive of its kind in South America. Between Los Molles in the North and Santo Domingo in the South, the coastline of the Valparaiso region is scattered with beaches which are among the most popular in the country due to their varied infrastructure and proximity to the capital (120 km. from Santiago).

Exclusive seaside resorts are those of Zapallar and Cachagua which mix the beauty of the landscape with the architechtonic tradition in Zapallar and the harmony of stile in Cachagua. Maitencillo stands out for its restaurants which are highly visited throughout the year by gourmets who enjoy dishes prepared with fish.

The ski resorts in Chile have good powder at high altitude, with plenty of clear sunny days. The snow is at its best in August and early September, the tail-end of the southern hemisphere winter.
