Florida Keys

The Florida Keys are known for holidays. Whether you are looking for water sports, ecotourism, sight seeing, fishing or partying, the Florida Keys has something for you.

The Florida Keys are a chain of around 1,700 islands. They begin at the very tip of Florida, about 24 km (15 miles) south of Miami. Many of the islands are linked together by U.S.Highway 1, which includes the famous Overseas Highway and the Seven Mile Bridge.

Florida Keys are the exposed portions of an ancient coral reef, which makes it different to most of the Caribbean islands that are volcanic made. The Florida Keys have a plant and animal life that is unique from the rest of the United States including the key deer and the American crocodile.

The Florida Keys are
known for tourism. Whether you are looking for water sports, ecotourism, site seeing, fishing or partying, the Florida Keys has something for you.

Key West is the last Florida Key linked by the Overseas Highway. This small island paradise only expands 3 km (2 mi) by 6 km (4 mi) and has a population of approximately 27,000 full time residents, about 32% of the entire population of the Keys. Key West is loaded with resorts, hotels and bed & Breakfasts. During the season from January through June, these accommodations are mostly filled with vacationers. Vacation rentals and campgrounds also house tourists who are escaping from a winter some place up north.
